Research
To begin this
project, our group did research on our genre, which was pop. The pop genre is a
very popular type of music currently. We began by looking for different types
of music production companies which included artists in the pop genre. By the
end of our research, we concluded that the two best production companies were
Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group. These companies, very
similar, had featured pop artists that were very popular among today’s music
culture, resulting in our choice. We then researched as to how a few of the
artists promoted their music and distributed it. The results were similar
amongst them all, however some had different techniques in marketing their
music.
Planning
Throughout our
planning, our group tried to think of ways we could convey the message of the
song. It was very difficult to, therefore we thought it would be best to make a
promo video for the song. We organized how the music video would be recorded,
picking places as well as who would be playing what instruments in the band.
Production
By meeting at the
Weston Regional Park, we had a cameraman handy along with all of the props we
needed to record. We began shooting clips of the music video and did each scene
about 2-3 times each. This was done to ensure the best quality video would be
produced into the final product. We rotated where we would record about 4
times, for different scenery throughout the music video. For lighting, car
headlights were used along with the built-in iPhone camera flashlight. Once we
captured all of the needed footage, we reviewed our planning to make sure we
had covered everything we needed.
Post-Production
After the
recording had all been finished, the editing was completed the day after to
make sure all footage would line up with the music. The editing process
included using some of the same clips over again at certain parts where the
musical lyrics were repeated. Lining up the music with the lips of the singer,
Alejandro Stoler, was made simple by having him lip sync to the music
throughout the recording. Once the raw editing was finished, a few aftereffects
were added to the end of the video to show the band picture along with the
names of the participants.
Presentation
Our presentation
was done by rotating group members for each slide. We read our script off of
our screen as there was not much elaboration from the text on screen. The
information showed what our marketing ideas were along with our inspirations
from the Sony Music Entertainment and Warner music group. The video was shown at
the end of the presentation.
This project
helped me understand how difficult producing a music video really is. Marketing
strategies must also be created elaborately, in order to gain mass views for
the music group. The design process helped me understand what these artists
known today had to go through to begin their careers as well. Overall, I
enjoyed making this project with my group.
